Help Igor Stay on His Feet

28 years old. Father. Fighting muscular dystrophy. Needs rehabilitation to stay mobile until a cure arrives.

My Story

My name is Igor Sankov, I'm 28 years old. I'm married, and together with my wife, we're raising our son Adam, who is 6. Originally from Krasnodar region, I have a degree in management. My family and I have been living in Sochi for over eight years.

Diagnosis

About 10 years ago, I was diagnosed with limb-girdle muscular dystrophy (type R9C5) — a form of myopathy caused by a gene defect that disrupts dystrophin production, leading to progressive muscle wasting.

Unfortunately, the disease has been progressing: my limbs are weakening, and my heart muscle is affected. Over the past years, I've undergone several rounds of treatment and rehabilitation — they helped maintain my condition and preserve my ability to walk and live an active life.

Why Help Is Needed

I now need extended rehabilitation to maintain my mobility and prepare for the next stage of treatment. In the US, a drug is being approved that can correct the genetic defect and completely stop the disease. To benefit from this treatment, I must keep my muscles in working condition.

Suitable rehabilitation centers are located in Croatia, Singapore, and Switzerland.
